OPPORTUNITIES for English-speaking theatregoers to enjoy drama in Slovakia are relatively few. But there will be one such chance on April 23, when the ancient Greek trilogy of dramas the Oresteia is performed at the Slovak National Theatre with English subtitles.
- [22.4.2013] Construction of Petržalka began 40 years ago

FORTY years ago construction of the biggest housing estate in Czechoslovakia was launched in Petržalka, a borough of Bratislava. Construction started on April 2, 1973, and required the demolition of family houses in the area, which were replaced by tall residential high rises assembled from pre-fabricated concrete panels, known to Slovaks as paneláks.

THE 10TH annual Bratislava pre všetkých / Bratislava for Everyone event will take place on the weekend of April 18-21 in the Slovak capital. Each year, the city uses the event to launch the summer tourist season, while also offering special programmes and entry without admission fees to selected venues, with some opening on this special occasion only.

ON FEBRUARY 27, the Slovak National Theatre (SND) announced its artistic plans for the 2013/2014 season, as well as broader plans for the future of the theatre. The SND’s new general manager, Marián Chudovský, explained that the repertoire of a big, traditional theatre should be planned for a lengthier period of time and span several seasons, and that this should hold especially true for the SND, the biggest stage in the country. This concept helped Chudovský land the top position at the theatre.
