Bratislava’s top shopping destinations are its large new malls – Aupark, Avion, Eurovea Galleria and Polus City Centre. Eurovea Galleria is within walking distance of the old town, on the north bank of the Danube. Aupark is just 5 minutes by public transport bus service or a 15-minute walk from the city centre, on the south bank of the Danube. Polus is about 20 minutes away by tram; Avion, as the name suggests, is close to the airport, but still only 30 minutes from the centre by public transport. All host top brand-name retailers. They also have extensive parking, and numerous dining options. Aupark, Eurovea Galleria and Polus City Centre all contain multi-screen cinemas.
The old town is home to many interesting boutique retailers, including jewellers and watchmakers, fashion stores, bookstores, wine stores, glass and porcelain shops, antique dealers and souvenir shops. For an authentic local shopping experience, the open-air markets on Miletičova Street (near the junction with Košická) and Žilinská Street, just outside the city centre, are good places to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, much of it grown locally, as well as cheap clothing, and to find local pubs.
