Parliament
Slovakia's parliament, or the National Council of the Slovak Republic as it's formally known, occupies one of the city's best positions, on a cliff above the Danube close to the castle.
Don't go expecting the Gothic splendours of the Palace of Westminster or the Hungarian Parliament Building in Budapest: this is a rather more utilitarian affair. That said, it is less of a hassle to visit than most national parliaments: tours are conducted every working day at 2pm, or at other times by request.
Some guides speak English as well as Slovak, but it's potluck as to which are on duty. Parliament is most likely to be in session on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Attached to the complex is a restaurant, Parlamentka, which is open to the public and has great views over the Danube valley.
Getting there:
The parliament is located next to the castle. It's a 20-minute walk from the city centre or can be reached via public transport by taking trolleybus 203 or 207 from Hodžovo námestie (get off at the 'Hrad' stop and walk back down the hill).
