The Bratislava Christmas Markets are well-known for their original culinary offer of gastronomic specialities. Its character reflects
the traditional national and regional gastronomies. When looking for some Christmas-typical refreshment, you can choose from
different meet specialities: roast meat, roast sausages, goose liver, roast pork knuckle, cabbage-filled potato pancakes (lokše),
sauerkraut Christmas soup (kapustnica), potato flat cakes, bread and lard with onion, crackling pogachas (pagáče), or other
delicacies, such as roasted chestnuts. When you have a sweet tooth, you will be pleased to find the famous Bratislava rolls
(Bratislavské rožky), or various strudels, home-made yeast cakes as well as Christmas cookies, wafers and gingerbreads.
You should also try some of the popular Christmas hot-drinks. Delicious Christmas punch for children and adults, mulled wine,
fruit grog and honey-wine are definitely on the top of the list.
The market stands offer a number of small gifts to make everybody happy. Wood, ceramics, glass, leather, basketry, corn husk or
honey wax can be used for hand-made utility and decorative items, contributing to the genuine atmosphere of the upcoming
Christmas holidays. You will also find a varied range of hand-knitted, felt or woven scarfs, caps, socks, gloves or pullovers that will

the ice-ring on Hviezdoslav Square, the Christmas craft fair or the annual Christmas Market on the Main Square (Hlavné námestie)
until 23 December comprise this year´s programme. You will have a chance “to go to Bethlehem” to see the Nativity scene. Attractive
Christmas workshops for children, the Advent Festival and related numerous beneficial concerts will only confirm that the Christmas
Holidays are coming.
Medieval Advent on the City Walls
The Medieval Christmas Marks on the City Walls, nearby St. Martin´s Dome, is the novelty you should not miss. Taking place on
December 13 to 15, the Medieval Christmas Markets on the City Walls hope to become an authentic form of amusement, including
period live music, old-times games, demonstrations of art crafts, and much more. The old tradition of “dropping” pennies for goodness,
off the Ancient Tavern, will be revived. Herbs of Dr. Kresánek, historical gift items, but also Christmas indulgences or palm reading, that

The ice-ring on Hviezdoslav Square, in front of the Slovak National Theatre, will be opened daily from 10:00 to 22:00. Admission: € 1
for adults, free for children under 12. Admission is free also for pupils and students of elementary and secondary schools in the Old
Town. Skates can be rented on site. Venues and times:
